RHOI was created as a vehicle for ERC acquisition in Indonesia, particularly in East Kalimantan.

As a non-profit NGO established under Indonesian law, BOSF is not legally allowed to acquire ERCs, thus RHOI was created as a vehicle for such acquisitions. The first ERC was granted in East Kalimantan in 2010. Funds for the licence fee were provided by BOSF donors. In the near future, RHOI intends to acquire more ERCs in East and Central Kalimantan for the release of orangutans.

PT Restorasi Habitat Orangutan Indonesia (RHOI) is a limited company officially established on April 21, 2009 under the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. Domiciled at Jl Kumbang 31, Bogor, West Java, the majority shareholder (95,965%) is the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF), who established RHOI for the specific purpose of acquiring Ecosystem Restoration Concessions (ERC) in which to release rehabilitated orangutans from the BOSF orangutan rehabilitation centres in East and Central Kalimantan.

It is our commitment not only to provide a safe and sustainable haven for Asia’s only great apes and the icon of Indonesia, but also to support the effort to combat serious threats of climate change caused by global warming.
